Public commenter urges audit follow-up role, says reports are hard to find

During public comment, longtime commenter Bob Duckworth told the committee that the city needs a compliance officer to follow up and enforce audit recommendations rather than waiting a year for action. He said that, while audit reports are published, they are difficult for citizens to find on the website.
"The city needs a compliance person to follow-up and enforce the findings of audits and not wait a year to see if recommendations have been have been put in place," Duckworth said, urging the committee to consider adding compliance responsibilities to the audit process. He also noted the city's fraud, waste and abuse policy was issued in December 1998 and revised in January 2009 and suggested aligning audit follow-up with that policy.
Chair Ed Moore acknowledged Duckworth's comments and staff noted the public comment rules and the specific agenda item (external audit firm selection) before moving into the staff presentation.
