County approves $175,000 to help Helmsburg sewer district hook 10 homes

The Brown County Board of Commissioners approved a $175,000 transfer from county 'sock factory' funds to the Helmsburg Regional Sewer District to fund hookups for 10 new customers along recently installed mains. Todd Myers, vice president/treasurer of the Helmsburg RSD, told the commissioners that mains beneath Bean Blossom Creek are complete and that homeowners along Helmsburg Road, Oak Ridge and adjacent routes have signed easements and requested hookups, some because existing septic systems are failing.
Myers said the district previously used ARPA funds for the plant's preliminary work and land purchase and reported $48,550.47 remaining in that account; he said the district is also pursuing State Revolving Fund (SRF) financing with forgivable-loan thresholds. Commissioners discussed SRF eligibility, a target of roughly 85% customer support for forced hookups, and next steps including a rate study to assess impacts if the district adds significant customers. A motion to transfer $175,000 was moved, seconded and passed on roll call.
