Resident criticizes long-term Puffer Road neglect, urges return to elected road commissioners

Shook said poor maintenance and heavy spending on buildings and equipment had left roads in disrepair and that shared township funding had stalled a repair project after Garfield Township declined to participate; he said neighbors may raise funds to cover the shortfall.
Rapid River Township Clerk Valerie Hansen and others also addressed the board about operational concerns, including the absence of the County Treasurer at township meetings and delays in distribution of tax rolls that affect summer tax-bill mailings. Shook urged the county to consider returning control of the Road Commission to elected positions so voters can decide representation.
