The Village of Sheffield Board on Dec. 9 approved a multi‑phase plan to install a 30x60 ice rink in West Park and authorized the village to assume responsibility for future maintenance once phases are complete. President Mary Lanham welcomed members of the West Park Improvement Team and the trustees voted 6‑0 to proceed after Trustee Pratt moved the motion and Trustee DeVoss seconded it.
The team described a phased schedule: Phase 2 — pouring concrete under the existing pavilion — to begin in the spring, with fundraising and donation requests to follow; Phase 3 will focus on electrical upgrades for power and lighting, and Phase 4 would add a chiller when funds permit. "The Goal is $50,000 and is currently at donations received in the amount of $5,750 towards Phase 2," the West Park Improvement Team reported. The group said it hopes Phase 2 can be completed before the June 2025 Carnival.
