Loyalton council appoints new mayor, vice‑mayor and reassigns committee seats

The Loyalton City Council completed its post‑election reorganization at a Dec. 17 meeting in the Loyalton City Auditorium, appointing B. Mertton as mayor and J. Markum as vice‑mayor by unanimous roll call votes.
City Clerk Kathy LeBlanc administered oaths to newly elected officers B. Mertton, J. Markum, J. Dines, S. Mcllravy and J. Gerow. Mayor Riede, the outgoing mayor, addressed the council before handing over the gavel and urged members to “be kind and respectful to each other and to appreciate our employees.”
Mayor Mertton announced appointments to city committees including Transportation (S. Mcllravy, J. Gerow, B. Mertton), LAFCO (S. Mcllravy, J. Dines, J. Markum‑alternate), SCORE (K. LeBlanc, S. Mcllravy‑alternate), Finance (B. Mertton, J. Markum, J. Dines‑alternate), Public Works (B. Mertton, J. Dines), Streets and Parks (S. Mcllravy, J. Gerow), Personnel (J. Gerow, S. Mcllravy, B. Mertton‑alternate), SVGWMD (S. Mcllravy, B. Mertton) and Fund Raising/Public Relations (J. Markum, S. Mcllravy).
The council recorded its consent to the certified November 2024 election results and presented a Certificate of Appreciation to outgoing Mayor Riede.
