The director told the board that the farmers-market nutrition program's distribution will begin in July this year (later than usual) and that participants were informed the per-person benefit would be $25 — down from $40 in prior years — because of federal program changes and administrative delays.
Board members asked about eligibility and whether community vendors (including Amish sellers) can accept vouchers; staff said vendors must be willing to accept the market vouchers and that the program aims to increase access to fresh fruits and vegetables for eligible participants. Staff noted outreach to local clinics and partners to encourage referrals.
"They've been told it'll be a $25 per individual," the director said, describing the adjusted benefit amount and its effect compared with prior summers when the stipend had been larger.
