Summer programs served hundreds; targeted tutoring showed strong short-term gains

District reports 365 elementary students attended Camp Invention and 79 at-risk students received high-dose Wilson tutoring over summer; assessments showed the majority of tutored students improved on fluency or reading measures.
District staff summarized elementary summer offerings and assessment results. Camp Invention (Spark) ran at four elementary schools with 365 participants—about 29% of the targeted 1st–5th grade cohort—and included modules on invention, forensics, buoyancy and rocketry. Staff said the program required at least five certified teachers and a director to operate each week.
Targeted tutoring (Wilson Reading) provided up to 30 hours per student; 79 at-risk students in grades 1–3 received high-dose tutoring this summer and the majority demonstrated growth on FastBridge measures. Staff reported: "76 of our 79 students were assessed on that CBM... 93 percent of students... demonstrated growth in at least 1 area." The district plans to carry summer intervention data into fall intervention plans so students continue on the same Tiered Intervention trajectory.
