State lawmakers present nearly $2 million for Port Orange wastewater and stormwater projects

Florida Sen. Tom Wright and state Rep. Chase Tremont presented a ceremonial check to the Port Orange City Council for $1,982,500 in state funding to support local wastewater and stormwater projects.
Wright said the package includes $750,000 for rehabilitation of the Charles Street wastewater lift station and funding for stormwater pond and infrastructure upgrades. "These projects address two of the most basic responsibilities of local government, maintaining reliable wastewater infrastructure and protecting residents from flooding," Wright said. He thanked the mayor, city manager and public works staff for advancing the projects and said legislative advocacy helped secure the funds.
Representative Chase Tremont, who said Port Orange is his home, described flood mitigation as a priority when weighing competing appropriations. "If I have to choose between expanding a park or saving somebody’s home from being flooded, I'm going to go with that every single time," Tremont said. Council members thanked the legislators and staff for their support and noted the projects will help protect neighborhoods and stretch bond funds already set aside for parks and drainage work.
