Commissioners table employee-benefit renewal after vendor outlines county-owned and payroll-deduct options
Summary
A vendor presented two options — a county-owned census plan and a payroll-deduction opt-in plan — saying Greene County has about 246 employees and that 55–60% had previously opted in; commissioners asked for modeled costs and tabled the renewal pending requested numbers.

A vendor who came to discuss the county’s employee-benefit renewal told Greene County commissioners the program can run two ways: a county-owned census plan that would cover all employees as county-owned slots, or a payroll-deduction model where employees opt in and keep coverage when they leave.
The presenter said he based his figures on a current count of “246 employees as a census plan,” and noted participation three years ago was “close to… 55 or 60% of employees opt in.” He described the county discount and offered a three‑year pricing reference. Commissioners asked for explicit cost scenarios showing county share versus employee share if the county switched to a census purchase. Chair asked staff to run numbers and return the modeled costs.
The board did not decide at the meeting. The chair moved and commissioners approved tabling the renewal until staff circulates the requested pricing and participation projections. The vendor said he expects to finalize paperwork in early September so a plan could begin Oct. 1 if approved.
