Vernon County health department, partners to hand out disaster kits at Fireman’s Memorial Park

The Vernon County Health Department told the board it will partner with local businesses and organizations to distribute disaster-preparedness kits at Fireman's Memorial Park this evening.
"So we'll be at the Fireman's Memorial Park tonight between 4 and 7, and participants will get a 5 gallon bucket," the facilitator said, describing donated items, printed emergency stickers and on-site smoke-alarm sign-ups provided by the Red Cross. The department said Nelson Agricenter donated 50 buckets and ARPA funds will cover the remaining purchased buckets.
Officials said the kits are intended to help residents cope with flooding and power outages (for example, by providing a way to flush toilets if plumbing and power are disrupted). Staff also said they hope to hold similar events in other flood-prone communities in the county if this pilot is successful.
