The Vernon County Board of Health on Monday heard that $118,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds arrived at the end of April and can be used through the end of the calendar year to support immunizations, staffing and technology needs.
"The end of April, we received $118,000 of ARPA funding that we can now use through the end of this calendar year," the meeting facilitator reported, saying the funds will help supplement staffing and supplies and support the department’s electronic medical record (EMR) work. The board voted to move a related agenda item forward for immediate consideration.
Board members discussed how the reimbursement-based structure of many public-health contracts means the department relies on drawing down several pots of money. The facilitator urged continued advocacy against proposed state-level cuts that could reduce reimbursable contracts for WIC, maternal-child health, immunizations and preparedness programs.
No formal appropriation language was adopted at the meeting; members approved routine items and the reordering of the agenda to consider the ARPA-related item sooner. The department said it will return with more specific budget steps and timing for the EMR implementation.
