Barty Maske, from the City of Grand Prairie Solid Waste and Recycling, told viewers that the foundation of any successful garden starts with soil, sunlight and regular watering. "So for a perfect garden, you need healthy soil. So compost plays a big factor in that," Maske said, and he recommended drip irrigation to meet regional water needs.
Maske gave specific, local guidance: most plants need about 6 to 8 hours of sunlight and a garden typically requires roughly 1 inch of water per week; for Grand Prairie’s climate he recommended drip irrigation as an efficient solution. He also emphasized spacing and soil nutrients, advising gardeners to avoid overcrowding and to add compost to improve soil structure and fertility.
