Shorewood board approves three public‑works items: $40K Ares survey, $40K basin change order and $23K emergency sewer repair

Public Works explained that ComEd’s permit for the US 52 water and sewer extension requires the village to locate and field‑verify pipelines within ComEd’s right‑of‑way; staff recommended awarding a time‑and‑materials purchase order to Ares not to exceed $40,000 to perform required survey work. The board waived formal bidding and approved the purchase order.
Separately, staff requested a change order for Performance Pipelining related to the Sanitary Sewer I & I Basin 6 project. Inspections uncovered heavy roots and voids at two locations; the estimated cost to line the affected segments is $40,092.73, increasing the contract to approximately $380,432.73. Trustees approved the change order by roll call.
Finally the board approved a $23,448 payment to Base Excavating for emergency sanitary force‑main repairs after staff described a Jan. 30 break in the force main serving the Sile Road lift station, which conveys about 70% of the village’s wastewater to the city of Joliet for treatment. Public Works said the pipe had a 3–4 inch hole at the top of the pipe and contractors completed emergency repairs under time constraints.
