Board approves up to $24,000 for updated water system risk and resilience assessment

The Village of Shorewood authorized a professional engineering services proposal for an updated Risk and Resilience Assessment (RA) and Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for the drinking water system, not to exceed $24,000. Staff explained that an initial assessment was completed in 2021 and federal rules (America's Water Infrastructure Act) require updates every five years; the village budget had approximately $25,000 for the exercise.
Public works staff noted the update is timely because the village is building a new pumping station and related infrastructure that should be included in the assessment. As planning staff explained, "A risk and resilience assessment and emergency response plan are requirements under the America's Water Infrastructure Act." Trustees approved the proposal by motion and roll call.
