Hugo swears in three firefighters after completion of probationary training

Fire Chief Jim Compton Jr. described the “several hundred hours” of training required for probationary firefighters to become state‑certified, including Firefighter I and II, hazmat awareness/operations and emergency medical responder coursework. After the overview, Chief Compton administered the oath and performed badge pinnings for three firefighters called forward: Jen (surname as given in the record), Corey (Albertson) and Tom Robinson. Each repeated the oath to “support the Constitution of the United States of America and the state of Minnesota” and to “faithfully discharge the duties of firefighter for the City of Hugo.”
Mayor White thanked the fire department for its response to the recent Wilson Toole fire, noting the business “is back up and running, with the majority of their business intact,” and congratulated the newly sworn firefighters on their commitment to the community.
Separately, staff summarized consent‑agenda personnel actions: the council approved hiring probationary firefighters Dalton Browner, Emily Piper and Christian Beeneck as part of the consent agenda. Brian Bridal, who summarized the consent items, also noted a donation from the Hugo American Legion to the fire department and the planned purchase of a Caterpillar mini excavator.
The swearing‑in ceremony, the consent agenda approvals and Mayor White’s remarks were all part of the council’s regular business for the evening; staff indicated the department will continue training and community outreach events such as a tree lighting this week.
