Selectboard reviews Class 4 Road policy draft; Tucker Mountain trail option discussed

The Selectboard reviewed a draft Class 4 Road Policy; Selectboard member Shauna Prime confirmed the draft is consistent with statute and the board discussed the administrative procedure for applying to work in the right of way. The board agreed to add a caveat clarifying the Town’s responsibility for culverts and bridges and to include a provision against locked gates on Class 4 roads. Tom Kidder, Chair of the Tucker Mountain Town Forest Management Committee, raised the option to designate Tucker Mountain Road as a trail, which could be seasonally locked to protect the summit road from erosion.
Fire Chief John Renfrew cautioned that locking short dead-end roads can create difficulties for emergency vehicle access and for turn-arounds; the board tasked Ms. Prime to prepare an amended draft based on the discussion and to share it with Mr. Kidder for further input. The board will take up the revised policy in a future meeting.
