The committee took up a discussion of the municipal fee schedule as part of 2027 budget preparation. The building inspector recommended higher fees for zoning reviews (to reflect consultant work) and a change from a 10% pass-through for inspector services to 15% to generate additional revenue to cover staff/consultant time.
"We wanna bump that up to 15 to bring in some more revenues," Committee member (S2) said when outlining the proposal; members asked staff to compile the specific tasks Carly performs for zoning reviews so the committee can compare with other municipalities and set appropriate charges.
Discussion covered which activities should be chargeable (zoning administrative review, larger plan reviews) and which routine replacements (water heater or furnace swaps) should remain low-cost or exempt from inspection fees. Members also flagged enforcement: staff reported increased proactive outreach this year to contractors who performed work without permits.
Staff were asked to return a proposed fee schedule with line-item descriptions and peer comparisons to support any fee increases before formal board consideration.
