Committee hears infrastructure pressures and likely 3% water rate increase
Summary
Committee members said the village is entering a new phase of water infrastructure work and that a simplified PSC rate case will likely produce an inflationary 3% water-rate increase later this year; members discussed wells, storage and booster pumping needed to serve new development.

The Finance Advisory and Enhancement Committee was told the village is preparing for substantial water infrastructure work tied to the second phase of Marchstone and potential Park Street/venice sewer and water projects that could require borrowing and household impacts.
"So water rates will likely be going up at 3%," said Committee member (S2), describing a simplified Public Service Commission rate filing the village approved. Members said the 3% figure is an inflationary adjustment and does not cover larger capital borrowing tied to new wells, booster stations and reservoir work. One speaker warned project borrowing could produce measurable household impacts, with isolated remarks estimating individual impacts could exceed $500.
The committee discussed operational details: the village has multiple wells but needs pumps and storage to move water to higher-elevation reservoirs. Members emphasized that current base rates will not cover debt-service for upcoming infrastructure and flagged the timing uncertainty for when construction will start.
The committee asked staff to monitor costs and return recommended budget or fee actions to the board. No formal policy decision on rate-setting was made at the meeting; the 3% adjustment was presented as the likely near-term PSC filing outcome.
