Missoula County OEM signals likely request for local fire restrictions as danger rises

On the July 15 episode of The Agenda, Adrienne Beck said Missoula County was experiencing very high fire danger with forecasts of near-100-degree weather over the weekend and that the county uses stage-based restrictions to control human-caused ignitions. "There are stage 1 restrictions, which normally means no campfires unless in designated areas... and then stage 2 restrictions restrict that human activity even further and that there are no campfires, period," Beck said.
Beck said restrictions are typical when a preponderance of human-caused fires creates the need to change public behavior and indicated she expected to ask the commission to consider some level of restrictions 'in the pretty near future.' She urged residents to heed restrictions and be prepared if the county recommends or enacts them.
