Finance staff presented the second read of an ordinance to continue the municipal grocery retailers and grocery service occupation taxes following a state law change that repealed the statewide 1% grocery tax.
"The village is reliant on this grocery tax. It is it is it does collect about over $600,000 a year for us," Ms. Burkholder said, and staff explained the village must submit the ordinance to the Department of Revenue before Oct. 1 to avoid a lapse in collections. The FY26 budget had been prepared assuming continuation of the revenue stream. Trustees approved the ordinance on a roll-call vote.
Staff said many nearby municipalities were taking the same step this summer to preserve local revenue after the state's change.
