Shorewood adopts Appendix G of the International Building Code to meet state mandate

A village presenter explained that Illinois' statewide building-code act requires municipalities to adopt Appendix G of the International Building Code, which addresses flood-resistant construction.
"They want appendix g of the international building code adopted... It has to do with flood resistant construction," the presenter said, and staff noted that enforcement in Shorewood will remain with the Will County stormwater management ordinance, which the village considers more stringent and area-appropriate. The presenter recommended waiving a second reading as a formality to comply with the state requirement; trustees approved the ordinance and waived the second read on roll call.
Staff characterized the action as housekeeping to align local code with the state act while keeping the county's stormwater standards as the operative enforcement tool for the village.
