Village approves professional agreements for annual leak survey and valve exercising

The Village of Shorewood board approved two professional-services agreements with Emmy Simpson Company on Feb. 11: $26,235 for an annual leak-survey program and $26,455 for a valve-exercising program.
Public Works staff explained the leak-survey work will test roughly 100 miles of distribution mains over the year and help the village meet its lake water allocation permit requirement to remain under 10% water loss. "This program is a best management practice... As you are aware with our lake water allocation permit from IDNR, we are required to remain under 10% water loss," Mr. Noriega said.
The valve-exercising proposal covers systematic exercising of roughly 1,300 valves divided into three geographic zones (about 400 valves per year) to keep routine maintenance within budget. Staff said both items are similar multi-year arrangements the village has used in the past and plan to budget about $30,000 per program in the fiscal year. Both motions were approved by roll call.
