Board approves Legacy Fire Apparatus PUD for vehicle service and showroom

The Village of Shorewood board voted to approve a planned-unit development and conditional-use permit for Legacy Fire Apparatus on Feb. 11, allowing phased renovation of the existing site and construction of a roughly 16,000-square-foot facility.

Natalie Acker told the board the project will be completed in phases, with phase one comprising about 70% of the new building area and providing drive-through access so large vehicles can be serviced and moved through the site. "They're planning a complete building renovation that will be done in phases," Acker said, describing nine large garage doors and an underground recycled-water tank for vehicle testing. Planning & Zoning and staff recommended approval subject to engineering review; the board approved the ordinance and waived the second reading by roll call.

The developer sought limited exceptions for wide driveways to accommodate fire-truck movements and requested occasional short-term display parking for trucks being sold (no more than ~20 times per year for up to three hours each). Staff emphasized a prohibition on regular parking in the front and that landscaping and maintenance conditions would be required as part of the PUD.
