Board proclaims Women’s Equality Day, Child Support Awareness Month and Farmers Market Week

The board issued joint proclamations with the City of Charlotte for Women’s Equality Day (Aug. 26), declared August 2026 Child Support Awareness Month, and proclaimed Farmers Market Week to highlight food-security work and SNAP outreach programs.
The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners used the awards and recognition portion of its meeting to adopt three proclamations. Commissioner Yvette Townsend Ingram read a joint City/County proclamation recognizing Women’s Equality Day on Aug. 26; the board then adopted a proclamation declaring August 2026 as Child Support Awareness Month and recognized county child support staff for their work.
Chair Mark Jarrell cited county figures in support of the child-support proclamation: "there are approximately 52,147 children and custodial parents who receive more than $50,700,000 in child support annually through the efforts of this county's child support professionals," he said. Lisa Nee, senior health program manager, accepted the Farmers Market Week proclamation and thanked partners who help make locally grown food accessible; she noted more than 8,000 county families access farmers markets through SNAP, SNAP double bucks, WIC FMNP and senior programs.
