Glassport updates seniors, parks, and community events; Per Scholas ribbon cutting set for July 28

Councilwoman Meghan DeVerse reported collections and scheduled community events including a Free Household Chemical Collection on June 21 and a satellite PA License to Carry/Firearm Permit event on June 21 at the Borough Building. Senior Center exterior work funded by a $20,000 grant from Senator Nick Pisciattano is complete; painting and roof-replacement bidding are next steps. The Senior Center will host free computer classes and visiting speakers from First Commonwealth Bank, Aetna Insurance and Jefferson Regional Foundation. Council also noted a new website section for commercial properties and that 74 children are participating in weekly kickball at Ninth Street Park.
Other announcements: a Ninth Street Park sign ribbon-cutting on June 21; Tree Pittsburgh is evaluating hillside erosion control and considering wildflower plantings; the Giant Eagle Mobile Market continues to serve residents weekly; and a blood drive is scheduled July 30 at the Borough Building. Per Scholas plans a satellite campus ribbon cutting July 28 at 9:30 a.m.
