Council raises summer pay, hires sewage laborer and adds sewage-education message

Glassport Borough Council on May 13 voted to raise the hourly rate for summer public-works employees from $14.00 to $16.00 and to hire Nathan Wojciechowski as a sewage-plant laborer.
Council Vice President Mark Stecak presented the Street Department report and moved to increase the summer wage "from $14.00 to $16.00 per hour," a motion that passed unanimously (Yes–7, No–0). Council also reported that sewage-plant interviews produced two candidates; a separate motion by Kowalski, seconded by Nabors, to hire Nathan Wojciechowski for the Sewage Plant Laborer position passed unanimously.
Councilmembers cited operational pressures at the sewage plant as the reason for both actions. The Sewage Department noted a range of failed inspections and a stop-work order in April and said the borough will begin including a notice on monthly sewage bills urging residents to put only toilet paper in toilets to prevent damage from diapers, rags and other foreign objects. The council did not specify a start date for the billing messages or detail follow-up enforcement steps.
