District 69 to contribute to Skokie time capsule; ParentSquare translation upgrade, summer programs and literacy pilots reported

Superintendent Dr. Margaret Clauson provided several community and program updates at the April 14 Board meeting. She said District 69 will contribute a video, student artwork and a superintendent's letter to Skokie's 2025 Time Capsule, which is scheduled to be sealed on June 7 at the Skokie Public Library and opened in 2050. "The District will be contributing a special video, select student artwork, a letter from the Superintendent, and other resources that embody the essence of District 69 in the 2025-26 school year," she said.
Dr. Clauson also reported that ParentSquare will upgrade its translation engine from Google Translate to Google Gemini for selected languages beginning April 15 (Spanish, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Portuguese). Literacy Leadership Teams in K–5 and 6–8 are completing a third literacy pilot and will meet to recommend a final curriculum, with initial implementation to be funded through CFC. The Summer Exploration Program received over 300 student applications; because District 67 faces summer construction, District 69 will provide space at Edison or Madison for District 67's K–5 program and integrate 6–8 students into District 69's program.
