Kirkland approves joint purchase of road salt with DeKalb County

The Village of Kirkland approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with DeKalb County to participate in the countywide joint road-salt purchase on March 16, 2026. President Ryan Block described the arrangement as the village's annual opportunity to get better pricing by purchasing salt collectively with other local entities.
President Block said "this is the annual Joint Salt Program with other entities in DeKalb County to participate in getting the best pricing for salt." Trustee Ziegler moved to approve the IGA for approximately 22 tons at an estimated cost of $2,100; Trustee Michener seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote with all trustees voting yes.
The IGA is routine procurement practice for winter maintenance supplies and does not bind the village to additional multi-year commitments beyond the purchase approved at the March meeting.
