The Manhattan Beach City Council voted 5-0 Tuesday to approve the meeting agenda and immediately recessed into closed session to discuss an item described as existing litigation. Mayor Franklin presided; Mayor Pro Tem Tarney moved the motion and City Council member Sherry Lyon seconded it, and the clerk announced, "Motion passes 5 0."
The council conducted a roll call before the vote; Council member Shrillion, Council member Hallward, Council member Lesser, Mayor Pro Tem Tarney and Mayor Franklin were recorded present. After closing the public comment period—there were no speakers in chambers and no requests on Zoom—the mayor said the body would enter closed session with an announcement of the items to be discussed.
A staff member told the council the closed session item relates to "a piece of existing litigation identified on the agenda pursuant to Government Code section 54956.9(d)(1)." The meeting then recessed into closed session; the council did not take further public actions on the dais before recessing.
