UN warns ISWAP increasing use of commercial drones in Sahel, Lake Chad Basin

The statement cited the group's growing operational reach and its adaptation of unmanned aircraft systems as a rising tactical concern.
The official linked these developments to fragile security environments and protracted armed conflicts, saying affiliates exploit local instability to recruit and plan attacks. The briefing called for enhanced regional cooperation and technical assistance to detect and mitigate improvised unmanned aerial threats.
