The board approved a contract with the Metro Chicago Mathematics Initiative (MCMI) at a cost of $87,450 to provide K–5 math professional development and coaching. Administration said the district is restoring math PD to elementary grades after prioritizing literacy in recent years.
Christie explained the district has not had broad K–5 math PD in several years and described the contract as bringing embedded coaching and professional learning supports. "Math PD...we are bringing back Math PD to K–5," she said. Board members voted to approve the contract on a roll call.
Administrators said math specialists will continue to support instruction locally and that the MCMI work will add concentrated, embedded coaching and professional learning in classrooms.
