Canajoharie board requests speed study for Clinton Road after resident complaint

The Canajoharie Town Board voted unanimously Aug. 8 to ask the Department of Public Works to conduct a speed study on Clinton Road near 1165 (Crooked Cabin Farm). The resolution, sponsored by Town Supervisor Pete Vroman and seconded by Councilman John Peruzzi Sr., asks the state standard be applied under Section 1622.1 of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law to determine whether the posted speed should be reduced from 55 to 45 miles per hour.
The resolution text cites safety concerns "for the safety of all children, pedestrians, wildlife and motorists along [the] road," and directs the Department of Public Works to perform the engineering study. All five board members—Supervisor Pete Vroman and Councilmen Michael Muhlebeck, William Armitstead, John Peruzzi Sr. and Rodney Young—voted in favor when the roll call was recorded.
If the state performs the study and determines a lower speed is warranted, the Department of Public Works and county highway officials would determine the next steps for posting changes. The board did not set an implementation date; the resolution only requests the study under the cited statute.
