District audit finds strengths, urges equity-focused vision and tighter program evaluation

Skokie SD 68 administrators summarized key findings from an educational audit conducted by Curriculum Management Solutions Inc. in May, which included classroom observations, interviews, surveys and student work-sample reviews.
The superintendent said auditors visited dozens of classrooms, conducted more than 100 interviews, collected over 150 documents and reviewed student work samples. She said the audit produced six recommendations built from roughly 10 findings, led by a call to establish "a clear equity-focused vision for student learning and engagement to guide strategic planning and operations." Other recommendations included sequencing high-quality curriculum and aligning professional learning; training building leaders and instructional staff in student-centered, culturally responsive instruction; strengthening organizational clarity and progress monitoring; using rigorous performance-based assessments to check mastery; and aligning financial management to program evaluation.
Administration said many recommendations already align with planned strategic-work components, such as the new '68 Learns' framework and the district improvement planning process. The superintendent said the audit's executive summary will be followed by a full report this fall and that the audit work will anchor community canvassing and the strategic-planning outreach later in the year.
Board members and staff agreed on the value of deeper community input and noted plans to share findings and gather more voices as the district constructs its strategic plan.
