District finance staff presented the tentative 2025–26 budget and explained it is preliminary and subject to change before final adoption. The presenter said revenue is predominantly local property tax and that capital projects drive much of the near-term increase in expenditures.
In the presentation the district's budget presenter said, "So the overall view of the budget is roughly a $43,500,000 budget revenue prediction and expenditures 65.5 with a projection of 1,700 students." Board members questioned the salary and benefits columns and the impact of capital spending on fund balance; the presenter explained the fund accounting approach and that planned capital work will reduce reserves in the near term but is an intended investment.
A board member moved to adopt the tentative Skokie School District 68 budget for fiscal year 2025–26 and to authorize administration to make the budget available for public inspection 30 days prior to adoption and publish notice of a public hearing to be held Sept. 18, 2025 at 7 p.m. The motion passed on roll call.
