The Salt Lake County Council unanimously ratified certified tax rates and the midyear budget adjustments on June 16 after staff reported stronger‑than‑expected new growth.
Rod Kitchens, director of planning and budget, said centrally assessed new growth came in at about 2.6% compared with the 1.6% figure used in last fall's projections, producing approximately $1.9 million in additional general‑fund revenue. "The big adjustment is primarily due to new growth coming in higher than anticipated," Kitchens said.
The council approved combining ratification of the tax rates with other midyear budget items and scheduled a final public hearing at 6:00 p.m. that day for any remaining public comment. Staff noted that some rounding differences occur when tax rates are published and that adjustments are largely a true‑up to recently certified values.
Council members asked clarifying questions; staff confirmed previous budget proposals were not fundamentally altered and that most true‑ups were technical.
