Superintendent reports donations, testing success and Earth Day events at Shirland CCSD 134

He described recent student activities: elementary P.E. concluded a roller-skating unit with volunteer support for Mr. James; grades 3'8 completed IAR testing with 5th and 8th grades also completing the Illinois Science Assessment. Testing concluded with a movie, popcorn and raffles for student participation. For Earth Day, Hoo Haven visited Shirland students with an owl, a snake and a wood duck; students entered a poster contest and planted prairie wildflower seeds on school property. Dr. Wlodek also "Hats off to Mrs. Pals and her team!" when he congratulated the Shirland Math Team for achieving Gold Level status in MathCounts, one of only about a dozen teams nationwide and the only team in Illinois to reach that level.
