Council receives update on zoning ordinance rewrite and America250 programs including 'Canstruction' food drive

Curtis Woodward of the Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District briefed the council on a comprehensive rewrite of the Salt Lake County zoning ordinance. Woodward said the draft is nearly 400 pages and that planners plan to break review into three workshops with planning commissions in August, September and October before returning recommendations to the council later in the year.
Matt Castillo (Arts and Culture Division) presented a final report on America250 activities, highlighting a countywide "Canstruction" project that raised approximately 25,000 pounds of food and nearly $400 in cash to benefit the Utah Food Bank (an amount Castillo said will provide more than 20,000 meals). Castillo also summarized other county and municipal events tied to the America250 effort, including a senior art show and library exhibitions.
