Residents and court officials urge faster action on court staffing and dockets

Amanda Squires, court administrator, read notes from Judge Altery documenting back-to-back dockets that left employees with only a 15-minute break and some court staff missing family obligations. "Our morning dockets concluded at 12:45PM, and we had 15 minutes to eat lunch and go to the bathroom because we had to start back at 01:00," Squires read. Council members said they had already assigned a finance-and-budget committee review and asked staff to return with numbers and possible motions; Chair Carlisle reminded the body of charter and statutory limits on when judge-compensation changes can take effect and directed committee follow-up so decisions can be informed and timely.
