Dryden Fiber update: 214 Caroline signups, construction and permitting underway

At the March 5 meeting, Dave Makar provided the Town Board with an update on the Dryden Fiber municipal broadband project, reviewing changes to the 2024 Inter-Municipal Agreement including shared services costs, grant updates, and the Caroline Municipal Internet Fund. He described operational topics still being addressed — tree maintenance and pole replacement, permits required from DOT and neighboring counties and towns, inventory of fiber, conduit and electronics, and plans for both underground and aerial construction.
Makar told the board that installs were being launched to first customers and that “214 people in Caroline are signed up for Dryden Fiber.” He also said the project team has submitted a letter to the State supporting Assembly Bill A10212 to align bond amortization periods with the expected 30-year life of passive fiber infrastructure, a matter the board later endorsed by resolution.
