Grand Prairie Libraries launch 'Reading Is Totally Rad' summer program

Grand Prairie Libraries kicked off the 2026 Summer Reading Club with an '80s-themed "Reading Is Totally Rad" launch that drew more than 500 children, teens and adults to the main library, a staff member said. The libraries said the program includes music, fashion and pop-culture elements and rewards for participants.
"Our theme this year is reading is totally rad and we are throwing it back to the eighties," a library staff member said. Library staff explained that participants create an account in the Beanstack app, choose a challenge, log reading time and receive rewards after five hours of reading; rewards include a free book, a prize from the treasure box or a coupon. The program runs at all three Grand Prairie Library locations through Aug. 8; staff directed listeners to gptx.org/library for full details.
