Kay County approves temporary appropriation to add one County Clerk employee amid rising workload

The Kay County Board of County Commissioners on July 20 approved an amended Temporary Appropriations application to add funding for one additional County Clerk employee for Fiscal Year 2027. County Clerk Tammy Reese told the board the office has seen a significant increase in workload tied to purchasing responsibilities and payroll processing.
"The County Clerk’s Office has experienced a significant increase in workload due to additional purchasing responsibilities, including processing purchases for 12 fire departments, increased bidding requirements, managing two payrolls, and expanded purchasing duties," Clerk Tammy Reese said during the meeting. She told commissioners the number of purchase orders has increased by approximately 1,000 over the past year and said additional staffing would allow current employees to absorb more purchasing work and provide support to the Land Records Department.
Commissioners approved the amendment by motion, with Kreger seconding Jones, and the motion carried unanimously. The minutes record appreciation for Commissioner Shanks allowing his administrative assistant to provide limited temporary help while the office pursues a permanent staffing addition.
