County legislative rep asks Caroline to consider urging DEC to require new permit review; board to send reps to AOT

Irene Weiser, Tompkins County legislative representative, reported her committee assignments and told the Caroline Town Board that the county recently passed a resolution supporting a nurses' union at Cayuga Medical Center. Weiser asked the town to support a proposed county resolution that would urge the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to deny an active water‑withdrawal permit for the former Cayuga Power Plant in Lansing and require a new application with a full environmental review.
Weiser also described a new state initiative expanding an energy affordability program for moderate‑income customers and said more information on income eligibility is available online. Later in the agenda the board reviewed the 2026 NY Association of Towns legislative agenda; Supervisor Mark Witmer and Councilmember Kate Kelley‑Mackenzie will attend the AOT meeting next month to represent Caroline.
