SEIU representative and others urge Berkeley to place ceasefire resolution on council agenda

Jocelyn Goldsmith Dacena, an SEIU 1021 officer and City of Berkeley public-health worker, told the council her local passed a resolution calling for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid and an end to occupation and urged Berkeley elected officials to take similar action. "I am here tonight to uplift the passing of ceasefire resolution by the Peace and Justice Commission last night, and to urge the agenda committee to put this on the agenda at the next meeting," she said.
Several other speakers on Zoom and in the chamber acknowledged the Peace & Justice Commission's action and asked the council to avoid bureaucratic delay. Kelly Hammergren and Blair Beekman thanked the commission and urged timely consideration; the mayor and council indicated they heard the request and noted the commission's referral process.
