Town Manager Suzanne Harvey told the council that after disassembly it became clear both sides of the Caterpillar D6 final drive needed replacement, bringing additional repair costs to $30,235.63. "Both sides need to be replaced so it is an additional $30,000, that is our D6. It's a critical piece of equipment. We also just paid it off, so we need to do the repair," Harvey said during the Feb. 26 meeting.
Council moved and seconded the item (moved by Johann Wallace; seconded by Christy Hirshberg) and approved the additional repairs unanimously. The minutes record the repair as necessary to return a critical, recently paid-off piece of equipment to service; no alternate funding source was listed in the minutes.
