Parks staff preview Shakespeare, Music in the Park, chalk-art event and new youth soccer offering

Programming staff (Mikkel) told commissioners about a slate of upcoming events: Shakespeare in the Park on Aug. 19, Music in the Park featuring Tamarack Ridge Band on Aug. 22 (planned 6–8 p.m.), and the Spokane Symphony concert at the pavilion on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Mikkel also said staff is launching a 3–4-year-old soccer league with a 32-child cap (21 registered at the time of the meeting).
Staff plans to promote events on social media and asked commissioners to share information. The commission also discussed volunteer judges for a chalk-art contest on Oct. 3 and potential sponsorships for larger events (symphony, fireworks, Home for the Holidays) to help fund programming and public art.
