Karen Mobley, the artist consultant, said the art-selection committee held a positive and robust meeting to review submissions and start prioritizing commissioned works and portable pieces. She told the commission the group will meet again to finalize finalists and move toward design contracts; on artist availability she cautioned that "because of what's going on with the fires, I've been having a lot of people I'm working with... who are in evacuation," which could complicate schedules and timelines.
Staff confirmed the Rocky Hill mural is complete and that the orchard and Harvard mural prep will begin in mid-August with painting to follow and an anti-graffiti coating applied about a month after painting is finished. Commissioners discussed plant removal and scaffolding prep at the Orchard concession area as a staff task prior to artist work.
