During the workshop a councilor urged staff to elevate large regional transportation projects ahead of smaller airport maintenance items. The councilor said big projects such as a Ustick/I‑84 interchange could be more transformative for the airport-area than runway improvements that the city could budget for directly.
"I see those as much more important, much more of a catalyst to that area than doing runway lights... but something big like an interchange that Ustick would change the entire environment out there," the councilor said, arguing that interchange or roadway access projects should be considered as priority catalytic investments.
Staff responded that the initial project list was a starting point drawn from the airport master plan and the area transportation system plan, and that the feasibility study and stakeholder outreach would be used to refine priorities and assess statutory eligibility for inclusion in a district.
