State conservation official: 21 new wells installed to support San Juan County ranchers, wildlife

At the Feb. 17 San Juan County Commission meeting, Ryan Jones, resource coordinator for the Utah Department of Agriculture & Food (Zone 7), described recent watershed restoration and habitat-improvement work in the county. "The Department of Agriculture combined efforts with SJ County Conservation District and the Utah Department of Water Quality, to drill and create 21 wells intended to produce water for ranchers, farmers, and wildlife," Jones said.
Jones also outlined outreach and educational programs for local farmers and ranchers focusing on soil health and resource management, and noted that equipment is available for rent to support local operations. Commissioners took no formal voting action on the presentation but heard it as informational background for potential grant or project coordination.
