Council concurs with mayor’s one‑year notice to end county’s MSD service agreement

Because unincorporated residential areas have continued to shrink and MSD has assumed additional responsibilities, the council supported the mayor's one‑year notice to exit the long-term county service arrangement and create flexibility to evaluate cost‑effective ways to serve remaining unincorporated areas.
Councilmembers debated the timing and consequences; proponents said the one‑year notice is intended to permit an orderly transition and not to dissolve MSD or remove any area from the district. The council passed the concurrence resolution on roll call 8–1, with Councilmember Marino recorded as opposed.
