Jay briefed the board on the advisory committee’s first meetings and the committee’s charge to advise on design and messaging ahead of a planned November 2026 bond vote to replace Forks Middle School. He listed seven key project values—durability, flexible/practical design, a prominent entrance, community-asset orientation, vehicular separation, safety and security—and said the committee is meeting monthly to refine priorities and messaging.
Jay also highlighted project challenges the committee identified, chiefly interim housing for students during construction and neighborhood impacts. He relayed OSPI input from Phil Partington that the district could be eligible for roughly "$20,000,000" in SCAP (School Construction Assistance Program) state funding, but cautioned that final numbers depend on certified October enrollment. The conceptual project schedule presented aims for design in 2027, construction beginning summer 2028 and students returning for the 2029 school year if the bond passes.
